UL Environment and EPDItaly, founder of the only Italian Program Operator, have recently signed an agreement of mutual recognition of EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for construction products and building services.
Mutual recognition of verified EPDs means that EPDs issued by both US and Italian program operators are accepted mutually without further verification.
Both UL and EPDItaly recognize that EPDs are becoming more and more important elements in a broader global product information system that will help buyers make more environmentally preferable purchasing decisions.
The goal of the agreement is to expand the understanding and use of EPDs to offer additional business opportunities to both Italian and US manufacturers which will enable recognition of building and construction EPDs and bring greater market visibility to UL’s and EPDItaly’s customers.
Mutually recognized EPDs will be made available in SPOT, UL’s internationally recognized online product database.
The agreement was officially announced last October 11 during a presentation event that took place at Confindustria Ceramica (the association of Italian ceramics) headquartered in Sassuolo (MO), Italy.
